Enhance workforce focus habits. Protect from burnout.

  • The quality standard for effective hybrid working

  • Empower effective behaviour change

  • Habits that make it easier to manage workload

Improve cognitive performance & protect mental wellbeing

In a Nutshell

Restorative Excellence is one simple change that empowers two vital protective workforce habits;

  1. Optimise focus ability

  2. Protect teams from burnout

Many staff don’t take the breaks they need. Making it harder to focus and increasing fatigue. It’s the cognitive equality of not drinking water. Protective breaks are essential to brain performance and health. The benefits are highlighted by over 100 global studies. From neuroscience to behavioural science. The Restorative Excellence quality standard is the seed for all healthy hybrid working models; making it easier to manage workload, recover from stress and strengthen relationships with colleagues.

Stats To Clarify The Challenge

74% of adults have felt so stressed at some point over the last year that they felt overwhelmed and unable to cope. - Mental Health Foundation

Main workplace stressors are workload, tight deadlines, too much responsibility, a lack of managerial support and poor relationships with co-workers. - UK Health & Safety Executive's (HSE) annual Labour Force Survey (LFS)

  • Workload is high

  • Working patterns have shifted

  • Burnout and overwhelming stress are more prevalent

The problem is systemic. Antiquated organisational working cultures combined with the challenges of hybrid working models = decreased work performance and increased stress.

Organisational cultures need protective processes to help staff manage stress and workload. To build in vital recovery time and recharge focus energy.

Behavioural science shows us that the most effective way to influence behaviour is modelling. What we are seen doing. If the organisation talks about wellbeing and offers lots of provision to support staff, this is helpful. However, if staff are then constantly inundated with workload but rarely see or hear how their colleagues build in recovery time, then they will imitate what they see: don't take breaks and carry on with work until breaking point.

Pilot - The Solution

The overall aim of the pilot is to create a quality standard that makes it easier for staff to focus on deep work and protects them from burnout. This is achieved through the creation of two simple internal processes.

  • Leaders modelling healthy behaviours

  • Staff taking ownership of the need to plan daily restorative breaks

The steps to establish the Restorative Excellence standard;

  1. Leader Habits. We compile the key habits of the organisation's senior leaders. Modelling two of their habits to the workforce; One technique they use to protect time for focus. One technique they use to build recovery time into their day.

  2. Meeting Habits. One simple process change inspires a cultural shift to help nudge staff to take a quality break each day.

  3. Staff Habits. Each member of staff is asked to plan one daily restorative break into their calendar.

  4. Cultural ‘Nudges’ . A tailored list of simple actions to cement the habit and embed the process that brings the benefits to life.

The Knock On Benefits

Organisations pay a lot of money for external support; EAP providers, learning tools, professional development courses. But something doesn't add up. Staff surveys say stress is increasing, while organisations are spending more on wellbeing provision. There is a gap between staff needing support and accessing the support they need. Restorative Excellence helps bridge that gap. A protective pause to help each person access the help they need.
